This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, supporting community initiatives and helping local charities thrive

As a small charity we rely on the generosity of our supporters and the local community to help fund the services we are able to provide to blind and partially sighted people across Gloucestershire. Our Relationship Fundraiser is responsible for writing funding applications, organising fundraising events and developing corporate partnerships and we are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic individual to support this work with a variety of admin tasks, from researching funding opportunities, to distributing fundraising materials.

What will you be doing?

  • Helping to research and identify local fundraising opportunities through local organisations such as Opticians, Health and Social Care Providers, Solicitors, Manufacturing Companies, Estate Agents, Finance and Accountancy businesses etc.
  • Contacting local organisations via phone and email to establish their charitable giving policy and what opportunities might be available for supporting Insight Gloucestershire
  • Supporting community groups, schools and businesses that are fundraising for the charity
  • Assisting with the distribution of introductory communications – both via post and hand
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of fundraising events and campaigns such as ‘National Eye Health Week’, Annual Appeal, Raffle and Christmas fundraising
  • Helping to maintain fundraising records

For individuals who would like to get out and about, this role could be combined with our Community Event Supporter role

What skills and experience are needed?

  • Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Friendly, reliable and enthusiastic with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Good organisational skills
  • A good team player who can work independently when required
  • Able to engage with a diverse range of people

What will you gain from the role?

  • The knowledge that you are making a positive difference to the lives of people living with sight loss in Gloucestershire
  • Experience in engaging with local businesses and community organisations
  • The opportunity to develop communication and relationship-building skills
  • A sense of achievement in representing a local community-based charity

What support will be given?

  • Induction and role-specific training
  • Understanding Sight Loss Pack
  • Supervision and support from the Fundraiser and Volunteer Coordinator
  • Reimbursement of agreed out-of-pocket expenses
  • Additional training as appropriate

When and how often will you be needed?

  • Flexible volunteering to fit around your availability.
  • Ideally a minimum commitment of 3 hours per week in our Resource Centre in Cheltenham.
  • Additional hours may be available during busy fundraising periods and events.

About Insight Gloucestershire

No matter how you have lost your sight, and at whatever stage of life you have experienced sight loss, we are here to offer support and advice.
For more than 165 years, Insight Gloucestershire has been supporting local blind and partially sighted people. We provide timely and appropriate support services for all people affected by sight loss in Gloucestershire, along with their families and friends. Our aim is to ensure people with sight loss in the county are able to lead active, independent and fulfilled lives.

Our aims are:
- To ensure all people with sight loss in our geographic area (and their family and friends) know where they can find support relevant to their personal situation.
- To provide a range of good quality, high impact services driven by the voice and needs of our clients.
- To build a strong and sustainable organisation which adds real value, can demonstrate its impact and has the confidence of the people and organisations we work with.
As a charity, we work across the county of Gloucestershire. We have a low vision resource centre in Cheltenham. We also regularly run local advice hubs and social groups in towns across the county where clients can access information, advice and guidance.
