GWT are pleased to be leading a Canal Clearance volunteer opportunity which will be looking after vegetation clearance ahead of major engineering projects.
The Cotswold Canals Connected project has recently been rewarded an extension and work is progressing quickly. This is an enabling task that will be carrying out vegetation clearing including bramble and willow scrub according to environmental best practice guidance. This will include ecological sign-off and supervision when required.
Lots of the tasks will be brushcutting and then processing vegetation for either burning, woodchipping or habitat piling. Brushcutter and chainsaw trained personnel will be very much appreciated, but it is not essential to have.
Work parties will take place on most, but not all, Thursdays during the winter of 2026/27. The Missing Mile and M5 projects are in full swing and this work party will focus on vegetation removal in the Missing Mile and at other locations like Stonepitts Bridge ahead of works planned on the Cotswold Canals Connected project for 2027.
The meeting locations will change from week to week, but we'll be mostly parking and meeting at the new M5 compound which is just off the A419 near Eastington.
