Gloucester Foodbank seeks a volunteer Treasurer/Finance Lead (5–10 hrs/month). Apply by 6 November 2026.
We are looking to recruit a treasurer / finance lead for our Foodbank.
Established in 2005, Gloucester Foodbank is part of the Trussell network of over 1,200 UK foodbanks, providing emergency food and support to people in crisis across the local community. The foodbank serves the GL1 to GL4 areas of Gloucester and surrounding areas.
Gloucester Foodbank is a charitable company limited by guarantee. We are regulated by the Charity Commission, governed by a board of trustees with operational activity delivered by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
You will be joining us at a time of renewed investment in our governance structures to ensure long term sustainability and clarity in strategic direction. Our outgoing treasurer continues to support our day-to-day finance functions and will be on hand to support a handover to the successful candidate.
What’s Required?
- An individual with a professional background in finance who will:
- Commit to Gloucester Foodbank’s vision, mission and values and act in a way that embodies these
- Use their specific skills, knowledge and experience to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions and support staff (paid and voluntary) in their roles
- Prepare and submit annual accounts
- Support development of finance policies
- Participate fully in finance discussions and contribute as finance lead. It is not expected that the individual will have sole responsibility for finance, but that they are someone who can support via specific knowledge, skills and experience
- Be willing to dedicate the necessary time and effort to the role. The trustees meet monthly online (1 hour) and quarterly face to face (2 hours); the finance lead is asked to attend these meetings also. An additional time commitment is required for tasks such as reporting and paper(s) reading. We estimate the time commitment per month to be around 5-10 hours
- Support the development of Gloucester Foodbank’s strategy from April 2027 onwards, which is likely to include a small number of additional meetings in early 2027. This is planned to be a piece of facilitated work.
What’s in it for you?
- An opportunity to utilise existing skills to support a small charity based in Gloucester focussed on alleviating poverty and financial hardship
- Personal and professional development – you may be a current or ex finance professional but not used your skills in this arena before. We recognise this can be a chance to apply those skills in a new setting which can bring lots of learning
- The ongoing commitment and support from the trustees and the Foodbank Director
Deadline for applications: Friday 6th November 2026
We will review applications and arrange interviews with suitable candidates.
