A Volunteer Response Driver will be helping Rescue and NHS Services to travel during adverse weather conditions in Gloucestershire.

As a Volunteer Response Driver, you will play an important role in supporting communities across Gloucestershire during periods of adverse weather, helping essential services continue to operate when travel becomes challenging.

Working alongside rescue and NHS services, volunteers may be called upon to provide practical support such as:

  • transporting essential equipment, supplies or resources to support emergency and rescue services
  • helping NHS staff and key workers travel safely to and from work during severe weather conditions
  • supporting the delivery of essential supplies, including meals for vulnerable residents through services such as Meals on Wheels
  • assisting with logistics and other tasks that help communities remain connected during challenging weather events.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys helping others, is confident driving in difficult conditions and wants to make a direct difference in Gloucestershire when people need support most.

Volunteers must be over 21 and  hold a full UK driving licence. They need to have access to a suitable 4x4 vehicle that is taxed, has a valid MOT, and is maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition.

However, as this role involves responding to call-outs during periods of adverse weather, we ask volunteers to be prepared to make time when needed. This may include responding to an evening call-out and remaining available while on standby.

Volunteers are welcome to decline tasks when they are unable to take part.

We hold monthly training and social sessions, along with two dedicated training days each year, and volunteers are expected to attend these wherever possible to maintain their skills and support the wider team.

We also ask volunteers to commit to supporting two days of summer event marshalling. These events provide vital fundraising income, helping us cover the costs of equipment, training and supporting new members.
