We're looking for volunteers to join our busy and welcoming Nailsworth Main Shop and Restore Store, helping us turn donations into vital support.

Are you friendly, reliable and passionate about helping your local community? We're looking for volunteers to join our busy and welcoming Nailsworth Main Shop and Restore Store, helping us turn donations into vital support for Emmaus Gloucestershire.

Whether you love fashion, furniture, customer service, merchandising, or uncovering hidden treasures, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Volunteer Retail Assistant, you'll support all aspects of shop operations, including:

  • Welcoming and assisting customers
  • Operating the till and handling sales
  • Sorting and pricing donated items
  • Creating attractive displays and merchandising stock
  • Replenishing shelves and furniture displays
  • Promoting and processing Gift Aid donations
  • Helping donors sign up to Gift Aid where eligible
  • Assisting with stock movement and organisation
  • Keeping the shop safe, tidy and inviting
  • Supporting the team to maximise sales and donations

No two days are the same, and every task you undertake helps generate income that changes lives.

Why Gift Aid Matters

One of the most valuable ways volunteers can help is by promoting Gift Aid. By encouraging eligible donors to sign up, Emmaus Gloucestershire can claim an additional 25p for every £1 raised from the sale of donated goods at no extra cost to the donor, helping us raise even more funds from every donation.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking volunteers who are:

  • Friendly and approachable
  • Reliable and able to volunteer regularly
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn
  • Good communicators
  • Team players with a positive attitude
  • Passionate about supporting Emmaus Gloucestershire and the local community

No previous experience is required. Full training and support will be provided.

Hours

Monday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm

We're looking for volunteers who can offer regular support, with as many hours as they can commit on a consistent basis. Whether you can help for a few hours each week or several days, your contribution will make a genuine difference.

What You'll Gain

  • Retail and customer service experience
  • Merchandising and display skills
  • Cash handling and till experience
  • Knowledge of Gift Aid and charity retail
  • Valuable work experience for your CV
  • Confidence and new skills
  • The opportunity to meet new people and make friends
  • The satisfaction of making a real impact in your community

Make a Difference with Emmaus Gloucestershire

Every item donated, every customer served, and every Gift Aid sign-up helps us raise vital funds and support people rebuilding their lives.

Getting there

About Emmaus Gloucestershire

Emmaus Gloucestershire support people who have experienced, or have been at risk of, homelessness. We do this by providing a stable home alongside care, support and supervision that is individually tailored to enable them to recover and to achieve their goals and aspirations.

For many people who experience homelessness, one of the biggest obstacles they must overcome is a loss of self-esteem. Emmaus provides an opportunity to regain this, with a chance to use their existing skills and to develop new skills and qualifications in order to help to rebuild their self esteem and confidence whilst making a real contribution to their community.

Emmaus communities are not hostels for the homeless; they provide a home for as long as someone needs it. For many, this support and stability is like the family they don’t have, providing a safe environment in which to settle and re-build their lives. Often this is an opportunity to overcome issues such as addiction, get support with mental health issues or rebuild relationships with estranged family.

Social enterprise is central to the Emmaus model as it provides meaningful work experience for companions but also generates part of the funding required to maintain communities.

Emmaus communities deliver a significant return on investment. Research shows that for every £1 invested in a community, there is an £11 social, environmental and economic return, with savings to the benefit bill, health services and a reduction in crime.
