Help preserve and promote Cheltenham's history by putting your financial skills to good use.
This is a chance to support a friendly local organisation and make a practical contribution to preserving Cheltenham's history for future generations. Our Treasurer is retiring, and we are looking for a new volunteer to take on this important role in 2027.
What would you do?
Working with the Society's Committee and Membership Secretary, you would oversee the Society's finances, including:
- maintaining financial records and the cashbook
- monitoring the Society's financial position and recording its assets
- preparing financial reports, budgets and annual accounts
- managing banking and authorised payments
- administering Gift Aid and submitting claims
- ensuring the Society meets its financial and Charity Commission requirements
- assisting with grant applications
You would also attend Committee meetings and present the annual accounts at the AGM.
The role requires about 6-8 hours per week on average.
Who would suit this role?
We are looking for someone who is numerate, organised and reliable, with sufficient financial experience to take responsibility for the Society's accounts and financial administration.
You don't need to be a qualified accountant. Experience of bookkeeping, accounting, charity finances or Gift Aid would be helpful, but we are particularly interested in someone who is confident working with figures and willing to take on a worthwhile voluntary role.
The retiring Treasurer will provide a full handover and guidance on the Society's existing financial arrangements and procedures.
