Make a positive difference to local young people. Join Archway School as a co-opted governor and help shape its future using your skills and experience.

Archway School is looking for new co-opted governors to join its Governing Board and bring fresh skills, experience and perspectives from the wider community.

Governors work collectively with the Headteacher and senior leaders to help set the strategic direction of the school, monitor performance and provide constructive support and challenge. The role is not about managing the school day to day but about asking thoughtful questions, considering evidence and helping the school make well-informed decisions that support every student to achieve their best.

You do not need previous experience of education or governance. The knowledge and skills you have gained through work, volunteering, family life or involvement in your community can all be valuable. We welcome interest from people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

As a governor, you can:

  • Make a meaningful contribution to your local community
  • Help shape the future of Archway School
  • Develop skills in strategic thinking, leadership and decision-making
  • Gain insight into how a school is led and governed
  • Join a supportive team with a shared commitment to young people

Governors attend six full Governing Board meetings each year and serve on at least one committee, which also meets approximately six times a year. Meetings are usually held from 5-7pm. Governors may also visit the school, attend events and complete relevant training. The average commitment is around two hours per week during term time.

The term of office is four years. New governors receive a structured induction, training and support from an experienced governor or mentor.

We would be very happy to arrange an informal conversation for anyone interested in learning more about the role before applying.
