Summary
We offer a flexible rota as we understand that volunteers have all sorts of commitments. We have regular sessions on Monday and Wednesday mornings 10.30 to 1pm.Detailed description
We need volunteers who would like to paddle in a six seat Katakanu. No experience is necessary nor do you need to swim. The boats are very stable and it is a shared activity. You do need to like water but you are more likely to get wet from rain than from the canal !
We need volunteers to run our two power boats. Initially, this would be supporting regular volunteers who have a RYA PB2 certificate.
It is more important to like people and to want to help them have a good time on the water than it is to have boating skills. Training is available and you can work to your abilities.
About Cotswold Boatmobility
Who are we?
We are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) - a group of volunteers aiming to make boating accessible to all on the Cotswold Canals.
What do we do?
We offer an opportunity for people who may have mobility, mental health or learning disability issues, for the elderly and the disadvantaged to get out close to the water and participate in the fun. Families, children and young people are all welcome.
Our volunteers include canoeists and boaters with a variety of backgrounds as members of the Inland Waterways Association, the Canal and River Trust, the Cotswold Canals Trust, the Cotswolds Canal Cruising Club and many other waterways interests.
We also have experience of disability issues and want to create an opportunity for all to participate in water based activities on our newly restored canal. We aim to meet all individual requirements. Please contact us.
Where are we based and when do we go out?
We are based on the Stroudwater Canal at Ryeford Wharf (see map below for location, or search for Cotswold Boatmobility on Google maps.)
